Food industry.. We all deal with it at some point or another. And honestly, since I am in the food industry I felt the need to journal on this one. (Of course, you know me.. I will ramble).
Why this picture? As I saw her taking the orders for the 7 of use for my Mother-In-Law's 95th birthday, I noticed a picture. I asked if the picture was of her baby and she said it was. I replied, "What a great way for inspiration!"
Most of us know what it is like in the food industry. With the personalities, the way that we see, smell, and hear things, and how we perceive the place that we chose to eat; combined into just 4 walls surrounding us, has a great impact on whether the guests come back to visit the establishment again.
In fact, the way our waitress or waiter, will have a huge impact on our decisions for the future. I know for myself I have went back to an establishment just because I was impressed with the way that we were served, not only about going back to the establishment, also seemed to have a great impact on how the food tasted.
If you have not been to Texas Roadhouse in Riverview, Florida, then it is definitely a place that I would recommend. And if you have been or are planning on going, ask that Omayra be your server. Because whether she likes her job or she doesn't like her job, you would not know.
As she opens her folder to take down each and everyone's order, the first thing that she sees is her child. And because she sees that it is her inspiration to strive to give 100% and beyond. She has a "Why," and she has a "Motive," to be the best that she can be and strive to be beyond that.
Omayra is one of people that we would love to have working for us in any establishment. She sends a message across the board that you have to have a reason "Why" you do the things you do and because of those reasons it gives her "Motive" to get up each and every day to go to her job. And because she has a reason "Why" and "Motive" she chooses to have fun at her job, give it her best each and every day, and to be accountable to go into work each and every shift.
If everyone would take a moment and maybe just copy the idea of what she did.. Stick your reason or reasons, "Why" you do what you do, then our "Motive" would come right after because our motives is what gives us the push to continue to strive to be the best we can be and gives us a reason "why" without giving us an end of day feeling of "What did I do today that is worth anything?"
So.. I say go for it.. whether you are a waitress or a waiter (stick your why in your folder).. or in an office (Stick your why on your desk).. or a driver for a company (Stick your why on your dash).. etc..
It is a fantastic idea! Be proud to show off your why as she did for me (yes I got her permission to post her picture).. Her attitude, her smile, the way she dealt with a very busy place, talking to her coworkers.. it all showed. And yes maybe she was having a better day then most, but I am almost certain that none of her guests would know either way..
Because when she goes to write down your order.. She sees her "Why" and that is her "Motive" to have a great attitude at her job!
*Just my thoughts*
