If you truly come to the realization that the Olympics is more than just competing for a medal; you might be in awe as I am.
For as long as I can remember I have watched the Summer and the Winter Olympics. It rules my television from the moment it comes on, till the time it ends. Yes, I love when the USA gets a gold, but even proud of the other competitors if they received the gold.
Every individual has trained themselves, with the special ability they have, to be the best to compete against others around the world. The sacrifices the athlete has made are now being shown for the world to see. To represent their country is a honour and they preform under the stress of wanting not to disappoint their country is profound.
However, that isn't what awes me. In History when countries went to war it was said the opposing enemies would put down their swords for one day and party together. That one day was Christmas Eve. After Christmas they would pick up their swords and continue fighting. Yet, less than 24 hours they were dancing, drinking, and breaking bread with one another and laughing and talking as if you were visiting an old friend.
Olympics are the same way in every since of the event if you think about it. This is what has me sitting here in awe and blogging about this today.
Each athletic during the Opening Ceremonies walked in carrying their country flag and waving to everyone around. All were laughing, talking, and thrilled to be there. For the next few weeks their are no enemies that each country is fighting with. There are no wars, no person we are against, no race different, every culture is accepted, every language is as one, and together they are United to compete for their country to win that medal gold, to stand on the podium proudly. Yet, shake hands or even hug others that competed well.
Think about the profoundness of it all. Imagine if we can set our swords aside for a Holiday or set the wars to the side for weeks for the Olympics, just imagine if we could all stand United. Not allowing the government's to dictate when we fight or when we come to peace.
Imagine if we the people of the world actually could be United. Accepting one another culture, the color of their skin, their different religions, and actually accepted each as their own individual because that is what makes them an individual. Imagine if we United and the soldiers of each country went on strike, and each person said no more fighting. Imagine if we United together in a world that is so different from one country to the next. And even like our country from the south to the north, it is so different. Just as every leaf on a tree is different from another.
We have shown we can unite. In history and during the Olympics. If our governments can have you unite and have peace in such a huge way in the Olympics, imagine if we all said, we are going to continue this for outside the stadium.
I sit in awe of the amazing capabilities that we have and what we have shown, each country. Isn't it time that we all learn what peace is and continue to learn and respect each other. Yes, I sit in awe, shouldn't you??
Only reason their isn't unity is because our politician tells us what they want us to hear. Not the truth. Only reason their isn't unity is because our politicians tell us what they want about a neighbor. But what is amazing if you think about it, each neighbor has something to share and give and when a neighbor is in trouble the neighborhood unites. Why can't we do it all the time?
Olympians you are amazing. You have worked hard to be there and deserve to be representing your country. Olympians you are sitting an amazing example of what peace is all about. I sit in awe.. No doubt about it.. On many different levels!!
