I think by now it is common knowledge that I travel back and forth to Greenville to work. Most of the time I am very predictable. Other times I will get a notion to go a different way. Even though when I went to North Pleasantburg, I found that I-85 was the quicker route.. Maybe n0t the shortest (only difference of a few miles literally) than going on Highway 123. By going on I-85 it I miss going threw Clemson, Easley, and all the red lights. Therefore, it does save some time.
However, this week I have been going to Poinsett Highway. (It is in Greenville). Of course when I leave to head to work at 7:30 am, I go the same way I always go.. the easiest, less hassle, and head to I-85. It is a little confusing for me when I begin to head home. My App that I use seems to be just as confused as I am. Hence, it has taken me back home going Highway 123. Yet, it really has not been that difficult going threw the towns because it is after rush hour and later in the evening.
Today on the way home it was an interesting drive. I hit Clemson. I stopped at a red light and behind me there was a Sheriff's car. (Not a big deal for me.. I'm not a speeder. I do not text and drive.. nor do I talk on my phone unless I am using my ear phones). Clemson was quite busy.
Just a little over 5 miles this highway patrol controlled the scene that was around him. Yes, controlled! I was so frustrated as I watched all this play out in front of me. The speed limit in Clemson City Limits is 40 mph. The highway patrol went in front of me.. and stay on the outer lane. I continued to drive as others started going in front of me, or pull in from the medium when there was space for them to get into.
Yet, as people began to realize this was a Highway Patrol car.. What did they do? They slowed down! Remind you, the speed limit is 40. I was hoping by the time I hit the bridge, going out of Clemson, that I would be able to pass all these people that slowed down causing me to be able to go no more than 30 mph. I am so frustrated at this point!
Finally, the bridge! Yippee! I go across and now the speed limit is 55 mph. What happens? People are still going slow! That Highway patrol car couldn't have been going anymore than 50 mph. After all, I barely can hit 45 mph.
It was useless!!!! I found myself letting out a deep breath of air. I turned my music on and decided that my frustrations would not help the situation of everyone "Conforming," to the way the Highway Patrol wanted them to "Conform" to. This Highway Patrol was controlling the situation around him, and all was conforming to the way he wanted them to drive. (Even though the speed limit is 55 mph)!
Ending all the frustrations that I had, I got a good chuckle out of the nonsense these Conformist were doing. Before the Highway Patrol decided that he was going to turn (Remind you it has been over 5 miles).. I was able to count 13 cars, 2 pick up trucks, and 1 taxi driver in front of me. (That is how slow this crowd of vehicles were behind this Highway Patrol)!
Now are you wondering what happened when he finally turned? I bet you would not even be able to guess. Well, let me just fill you in. By the time he made a left hand turn (mind you that he did not even use his blinker).. within moments I was able to hit between 55 and 60 mph. What my APP said when I approached Clemson I was due to be home at: 8:13 pm. By the time I was able to hit between 55 and 60 mph.. my APP showed that my arrival time to be home.. 8:21 pm.
Please do not get me wrong. I understand that there is a respect thing. Or maybe it is that people are frightened they may get a ticket or that amongst all those Vehicles you would end up being the target. (Maybe because you had a tail light out or whatever).. I understand that the majority of people tense up or become very nervous.. or your anxiety may rise because someone that has the POWER to pull you over.. can.
I do it also. I respect them and will slightly slow down. I become more aware that I better come to a complete stop at a Stop sign, to use my signal when I am turning.. I mean, I am not ignorant enough to know that they do have that POWER to pull me over at any time and actually for any reason they might see fit.
I believe what bothers me the most is that there were 16 different vehicles in front of me. Causing the congestion of traffic to become slow because there was 1 Highway Patrol in front of them. I also believe that I was not the only one that was probably frustrated either, but happen to be on the tail end of all these "CONFORMIST" that were in front of them.
In fact, that Highway Patrol was actually in the wrong. And because he was in the wrong.. Everyone followed his lead. He was in the passing lane.. Leading. The inside lane which I was in.. Is also what everyone knows as the slower lane.. We are suppose to use the other lane to pass.. Right? Well, in the passing lane the car that was just hitting my blind spot was maybe going 45 to 50 mph. After all, I could not even get past 45 to 50 mph. Hence, the passing lane... (which was lead by the Highway Patrol) and the inside lane.. led by the car that would not pass the Highway Control.. has now caused 16 Vehicles to go under the speed limit.. not by just a few, but about 10 mph under the speed limit.
Not only did this Highway Patrol control the passing lane under the speed limit.. He also failed to use his turn signal.
Just because "Others" are doing it, does not mean that you should be. This is only one example of what "Conforming" is all about. We are individuals. We should not conform to what others think or act because the majority is on board. We need to stand up for what you as an Individual thinks and believes. Does not matter who is standing with you.
Fact of the matter is this... Are you willing to stand alone? Would you, in fact pass that Highway Patrol when the speed limit is 55 mph or would you lead the other lane with just a fraction of less speed than what he is doing knowing he is way below the speed limit?
Just some rambling thoughts.. Can you find the true meaning of this ramble?
