Breastfeeding is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child if you are able to. There is much controversy on this subject I am well aware of this. Actually, the biggest controversy happens right here in the Land of the Free called America. The majority of countries breastfed their children all the way into toddler years. |
Month of August is national Breastfeeding Awareness. In the above picture the young woman you see is my daughter with her 2 girls LakeLynn and baby Mila. We went to the pediatrics office today and even though they really didn't have a place that is for breastfed mothers, they did provide a place for her while she was waiting for Mila to be seen.
I nursed (breastfed) Katarina till she was almost 2 years old. Katarina nursed LakeLynn till she was almost 2 and now LakeLynn is looking down upon her sister as her mother now nurses her sister. Katarina is teaching LakeLynn that there is NOTHING to be ashamed of.
Believe it or not.. Here in the United States people are embarrassed, get ashamed, guys that the women are with wonder what others are thinking or if another guy is looking about his woman in a sexual way. (Yes, this does happen here and there, but it isn't a common thought) Most people just take a 2nd glance because they can't believe that they are seeing a woman with her breast out.
Isn't that a shame when this is the natural way to feed your child? It has everything from the nutrients and fat to help keep your baby healthy. Mothers also get healthy and back to normal quicker than formula fed babies. Breastmilk also is easier to digest for your wee one. It also has been proven that they are smarter, and a high percentage of babies that are breastfed only for a year or more end up not being over weight. (Now that is extremely important since here in the America we have the highest obesity in the world)!
Let's not forget.. yes as a nursing mother you could get a blanket cover your baby up or even get long shirt and cover. However, as I taught my daughters, there is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a natural to breastfed your children. If society has a problem with that then let them cover their eyes, why should you be hotter when it is already 90 degrees outside. I'm not saying to flaunt it.. just modestly just plop that breast out and put your baby right to you and let her/him eat.
YOU have nothing to be embarrassed about! Be proud you have the ability to provide a natural resource and are able to nurse your baby full time. I am PROUD that my daughters, both of them Savannah and Katarina, has done this and continue too.
So.. in HONOR of BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS MONTH.. Be proud and share your breastfeeding pics! I would love to see them!
