As I just finished my 2nd week back at Domino's as General Manager, I have to say that I am really glad to be back here. After all, since I live right here in Westminster, what better way to get to know each and everyone in the community? And of course, hopefully a lot more than just Westminster community.
Okay, let's be honest right? And even though I am so undoubtedly inconsistent when I blog, I am to be honest no matter what is going on in my life. So... here it goes:
I did try to per say "retire.." hang around the house, do some house work, gardening, etc.. But, didn't go to the river or anything like that this year either. I know that I have worked all my life.. and many, many times been told how much of a "workaholic" I am.
Over the last year (Since at one point I was only helping Anastasia-the Mother of my "Godchild-Josephine).. I did receive some offers for other positions for employment. And yes, *laughing* they were tempting.. very tempting.. and my biggest one I struggled with was when "QT," called and made offers (several times).. the highest offer in pay if I accepted, certain days off, benefits, etc.
Yet, I found myself answering the question, "Would you consider being General Manager of Westminster, again?" with a simple yes..
Let's be honest here.. Most of everyone that really knows me and has seen me before when I worked as General Manager.. most know that the hours, benefits, etc aren't in the top form. I've heard more of.. you are crazy. Why go back and why go back as a gm?
I actually love Domino's. Yes, it is very stressful especially trying to get back into the swing of things and being short staffed with drivers. It isn't hard core of every moment of every second you are there, stress. I know just like other jobs, there are rules, guidelines, expectations, etc..
However, to me.. it is more than just a job with employees. It is a family. I live in part of the Upstate where everyone knows pretty much everyone. And if you don't know them.. well eventually you will. And so with Domino's this September will mark that I've been there 7 years. I understand not continuously due to either I having health issues or just exploring new things.
Doesn't matter if they are in other stores or not.. you know that they have your back. Don't misunderstand this because not every person in the store is close to one another.. and if most was truly honest.. half of the gm's can't stand one another.. will talk sh*t about you all day long.. but smile to your face.. even with that said if one is down because life has thrown him/her a curve ball.. we have all had each other's back. You know.. like family a love/hate relationship.
Yet I honestly can say that there are a at least 1 person in every store that the owners have here in the upstate that mean something to me. And I can honestly say my neighboring stores (even if we don't see each other like in forever) we still have each other's back. (And not pretending either, just real.. and yes we argue.. but in the end hug each other and move on)..
Reality is this.. yes I could of accepted other offers with more pay.. with benefits.. with a 401k or whatever the heck they are called.. and yes I might not had to work so many hours or worry about lack of staff or where I was going to find the employees.. I might of given up sick days with pay or vacations that you earn and are paid to go on.. and not have to worry about covering your shift or what goes on because you are covered..
Reality is this.. yes I could of accepted other offers.. Maybe even worked my way up the cooperate ladders that American Society makes us believe that is being successful.
Yet, my only fact is this.. no matter how frustrated I get or how I beat myself up constantly to strive to be better.. (I am my worst enemy).. no matter how much I push myself and my team (because without them there wouldn't be me).. no matter how many customers scream at me, curse at me, call me names, or let me see them naked (look for a prior blog).. it all remains only one thing..
I LOVE DOMINO'S!
So thank you everyone to all the employees all here in the Upstate that has welcomed me back with open arms.. and thank you to all the employees that just shook their head and mumbled under your breath of how you can't stand me (because that means now you get to see me all the time at the meetings etc, I'm not going anywhere) *smiles*
And most of all thank you community of Westminster and Westminster Domino's for such a warm welcome back!
